Eligibility of Northern Kentucky University
Here are the requirements for admission to our university:
1. A score of at least 500 on the paper-based or 61 on the internet-based (iBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the past two years is necessary for admission. However, students applying for post-baccalaureate programs must have a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based exam or 79 on the iBT.
2. Non-native English speakers must provide documentation showing successful completion of freshman-level English writing at a regionally accredited American college or university within the United States, with an overall acceptable GPA. If it has been an extended period of time since the student took English classes or has returned to school, they may still be required to take the TOEFL.
3. A good verbal score on the ACT or SAT taken within the last two years is also accepted. An ACT score of 18 or an SAT score of 430 (until 3/15/16) or 25 (effective 3/16/16) is necessary for consideration.
4. International students must provide an official and satisfactory result from the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) within the past two years. A minimum score of 5.5 on the IELTS is required, with sub-scores of 5.0 or better in reading and writing. For post-baccalaureate programs, a score of 6.5 or above is necessary.
5. Students who have completed the American English Language Program (AELP) at our university with an average grade of 80% or higher in each class are also eligible for consideration.
