Placements

Internships provide an excellent platform for students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice, and Oxford Brookes University is committed to helping students find the best internship opportunities. A well-chosen work placement can significantly enhance a CV and make a candidate stand out in the job market. In fact, many of our placement students secure a job with their placement company after graduation. Participating in a year-long work placement is a key component of all our undergraduate programs. While it is optional, we highly recommend it as it takes place in the third year of a four-year program. In order to add value to your degree, the placement should offer a suitable level of responsibility and be full-time (minimum of 37.5 hours per week) for at least 48 weeks. It is also important for the remuneration to be fair and not lower than the country's minimum wage. Taking a placement year offers a range of benefits, such as gaining practical experience in a graduate-level position before you graduate. This experience will give your CV a significant boost and make you stand out among other candidates when applying for graduate roles. Additionally, many of our students receive a job offer from their placement employer upon graduation. Undertaking a placement will also enhance your analytical and communication skills, two highly sought-after skills by employers. It will also give you a chance to gain hands-on experience in your field of interest, ultimately supporting your career goals. Moreover, you will develop confidence by working in a fast-paced and competitive environment. Above all, a placement year will provide you with the necessary skills to excel academically, increasing your chances of securing a suitable job after graduation. Our university offers support through the Skills for Placement Module, which is taken during the second year of study. This module will equip you with the necessary skills and tactics to ace interviews and assessment centers. Additionally, our Business School has a dedicated placements team that can provide further assistance. Your individual Placement Tutor will also offer continuous support throughout your placement year.
