Eligibility of University of Alabama at Birmingham

The educational institute provides a work experience opportunity to students, which can help them gain confidence and skills for the real world. UAB requires all students to complete two writing courses and one math course to graduate. To determine a student's understanding of a subject and provide them with the best chance of success, they must take placement exams in English and Math. If they have registered with Disability Support Services, they may be eligible for testing accommodations. International students who meet certain requirements can enroll in English Composition I (EH 101) or English Composition for Second Language Writers (EH 108). They must also take the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment if they have no math credit or no credit above the remedial level (MPA) to register for a math course. Students waiting for alternative credit reports must still take the MPA and enroll in the highest math course until alternative credits are received. If a student wants to take a world language placement test, they must have studied the language for at least one year within the last two years and want to take French, Spanish, German, or Chinese classes. Internship placements are made months in advance, and student teachers must contact the School of Education to arrange their placement; contacting school officials or personnel is not permitted. Factors such as availability, criteria, and partnerships play a role in determining placement sites, and all placements are within a 50-mile radius of UAB. Some exceptions may be allowed, but changes in address and name must be reported to the Office of Clinical Experiences immediately.
