Placements

Several courses require students to complete an unpaid internship in order to attain their program certificate or graduate from the College of the North Atlantic. The objective of the work placement is to provide students with a unique learning opportunity within a natural workplace setting. This experience equips students with technical skills and enhances their employability, contributing to their personal growth. It also enables them to establish new connections and expand their perspectives on potential career paths. The work placement typically spans two weeks for certificate programs and six weeks for diploma programs, with a minimum work requirement of 30 hours per week and a maximum of 40 hours as specified by the employer. The availability of an appropriate employer during intersession determines the timing for the placement. For students who complete their degree out of the standard order, the work placement will occur in the semester immediately following their final semester of studies. Only those students who receive certificates will be required to complete a two-week work internship. For students in a two-year diploma program, the work placement will be completed at the end of the second year, regardless of their year of study.
