Placements

Internal Internships and Work Placements are excellent opportunities for university students to enhance their professional skills and obtain valuable real-world experience. These internships are highly sought-after as they provide students with valuable industry exposure, which greatly improves their employability. The following programs have been approved for inclusion on the Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS), making them eligible for recognition. The Construction Management and Property Work Experience Program are particularly beneficial for students as it allows them to be better prepared for the fast-paced and competitive construction and property industries. The program encourages participation in internships, cadetships, and other work experience activities related to the sector, which helps students gain practical experience and learn industry techniques and culture independently. Interested students who wish to participate in the Construction Management and Property Work Experience Program can apply at any time by sending an email to the program coordinator. Please note that this opportunity is exclusively open to undergraduate students enrolled in the Construction Management and Property Program. Another great opportunity for students to gain a competitive advantage in the job market is the Graduate Advantage Program (GAP). This program collaborates with prestigious firms to provide an intensive and unique professional development program for students, giving them the "graduate advantage". The program helps participants develop personal and professional skills, gain a better understanding of the corporate world, and improve their employability. To be eligible for GAP, students need to be in their final year of studies with an Australian citizenship or Permanent Residency, have a credit WAM, and be pursuing a degree through the UNSW Business School, Faculty of Engineering, Science, Law, or Arts and Social Sciences. Applicants must also be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the whole week and complete online questionnaires, interviews, curriculum vitae, and provide a copy of their academic transcript. The Co-op Program at UNSW offers Industry Training Experience (ITE) placements for students to gain degree-relevant employment experience before graduation. Each ITE placement provides a unique learning opportunity that complements academic courses. During the ITE, scholars are expected to follow professional standards in terms of performance, attire, and business hours and complete relevant duties and obligations. To participate in ITE, students must have a credit WAM and apply directly to the UNSW Co-op Program office. Please note that this opportunity is only available in a few Co-op Program fields of study. As an Arc member, students can participate in the Arc Internship Program to gain hands-on industry experience in their chosen field of study. The program helps students acquire practical skills that enhance their resumes and give them a competitive edge after graduation. Applications for the following year's intake open in October and close in November. The interviews start in November, and successful interns undergo an induction session in January before starting their internships in February. UNSW Co-NNECTIONS is another excellent program that aims to improve the educational and career outcomes of students from all backgrounds. Participants go through a range of professional development events throughout two semesters to build their confidence and skills while also building a community of like-minded peers. The program is open to Equity students who have completed at least two terms of study, and recruitment for the next intake starts in the third term. Employers can leverage the Diploma of Professional Practice (DPP) work placement program to bring excitement, energy, and entrepreneurial spirit of UNSW students to their workplace. This opportunity not only benefits employers but also creates opportunities for recent graduates to learn new job skills. The DPP is designed to help UNSW students become job-ready in a competitive job market, making them more appealing to potential employers. By hosting a student industrial placement, employers provide students with a better understanding of the workplace and a head start in their careers. The Diploma of Professional Practice includes a range of skills and experiences, making it a highly beneficial program for students to participate in. Employers can play a crucial role in helping students gain these new skills and experiences, preparing them to excel in their future careers. By doing so, employers contribute to the betterment of the workforce and society as a whole.
