Placements
At SUNY New Paltz, the Center for Applied Studies (CAS) offers various opportunities and resources to enhance students' academic journey. The CAS Internship Stipend Program is a highly competitive and selective program that rewards a limited number of students with a $2,000 scholarship stipend for participating in a semester-long internship or student teaching placement during the fall and spring semesters. For a full-time summer internship (20+ hours per week), students may be eligible for a stipend of up to $3,000 in scholarship funds. Interested students can also opt to pursue an internship for academic credit, which allows them to work at businesses related to their major or minor while earning credits towards their degree. Each intern is supervised by a SUNY New Paltz faculty member from their respective department, who assigns academic work and grades the performance. Additionally, the university's Office of Field Experiences provides placements for student teachers in various regions such as Mid-Hudson Valley, Lower-Hudson Valley, NYC, Long Island, Utica, and even Australia. The placements are within 45 miles of the student's residence and transportation needs to be arranged by the student. If necessary, other placements can be made outside these regions with the approval of an education program advisor or chair.
